Sunni Yuvajana Sangham to rope in Hindu, Christian priests against terror

The campaign will include Hindu and Christian priests to give it a secular face, said SYS state committee members.

KOZHIKODE: The Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS), youth wing of Samastha Kerala JamIyyathul Ulama, will launch a three-month campaign against the Popular Front and SDPI with the help of other religious leaders from August 6. Targeting over 9,000 Mahals (religious establishments) in the state, the campaign will include Hindu and Christian priests to give it a secular face, said SYS state committee members.

An awareness meeting on the special campaign named ‘IS- Salafism- Fascism’ - SYS trimonthly campaign’ will be held in mosques across the state on July 29. The meeting will discuss the implementation of the drive aimed at bringing religious harmony in society, said Samastha Kerala Sunni Mahallu Federation state secretary Umar Faisi on Tuesday. Talks have already started with the priests of the other two religions and they will be part of the discussions to be held in 140 Assembly constituencies in the state during the three months. These priests will be chosen by the committees region-wise.

“The family meetings in the inner circles will have women members to spread awareness against Muslim youngsters getting attracted to the NDF. There are mothers and wives complaining about their sons and husbands joining these terrorist groups. So, the first step is to educate the women before the youth get lured to them,” said Umar Faisi.

The campaign will be inaugurated by general secretary Prof Alikkutty Musaliyar and the event will be presided over by treasurer Jifri Muthukoya Thangal. At the inaugural event to be held at K.P. Kesava Menon Hall in Kozhikode, five theses on Islamic State terrorism, Salafism, secession, fascism and terrorism will be presented by Rahmathulla Khasimi, Abdul Hameed Faisi Ambalakkadavu, Pinangod Aboobacker, Abdusamad Pookkottoor and Nasser Faisi Koodathai.
