Mullaperiyar water level will be raised to 152 ft: O Panerselvam

The stand of Kerala is that it is not safe to raise the level beyond 136.

Kottayam: Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister O. Panerselvam on Monday said the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam would be raised to 152 feet. Inaugurating the release of water from the dam at Thekkady, he said it was the desire of the late Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalitha. He stated that they would hold discussions with the Kerala government on raising the water level.

The statement is in the context of the irrigation department officials finding leakages in the Block 11 and 12 shutters on Sunday. The stand of Kerala is that it is not safe to raise the level beyond 136.
