School girl dies of dengue in Coimbatore

DMK MLA of singanallur constituency in Coimbatore had recently blamed the state government for \"failure\" to control dengue.

Coimbatore: A 16-year-old girl died of dengue in a private hospital in Coimbatore, police said on Wednesday.

Hemavarthini, a plus one student from Puliyakulam was admitted to a private hospital in Coimbatore two days ago with complaints of fever and tested positive for dengue, they said.

However, she died last night without responding to treatment, they added.

DMK MLA N Karthick of singanallur constituency in Coimbatore had recently blamed the state government for "failure" to control dengue.

After his visit to the government hospital in Coimbatore, the MLA alleged that the government was not giving exact number of people affected by the disease.

A woman and her 2-day-old had died of dengue in the district on July 9.

According to government hospital sources, 20 dengue cases and 143 viral fever cases have been reported in the hospital.
