Nalgonda: School van runs over infant boy

While his father was busy putting the children into the bus, Lokesh went under the bus but no one noticed him.

Hyderabad: A two-year-old boy who accompanied his elder sister to see her off to school was run over and killed by the school’s bus in Nalgonda. The boy, G. Lokesh, came under the bus while his father was sending off his sister. The driver who did not see him moved the bus.

Police said G. Narsimha and G. Sharada, a farmer couple from Nagaipallikunta village in Turkapally mandal, has four daughters and two sons. His two elder daughters are studying at the Padala Memorial High School at Turkapally.

On Monday morning, while Sharada was busy at home, Narsimha took his two daughters to drop them at the school van pickup point in the village. Lokesh, who was playing, also went with his sisters to see them off along with his father. While his father was busy putting the children into the bus, Lokesh went under the bus but no one noticed him. The van driver moved the bus after the kids boarded.

“Lokesh who was under the van came under the left rear tyre of the vehicle and was killed on the spot,” Turkapally sub inspector Md Nasiruddin said. The van attender also did not see the kid going under the van.

When Narsimha heard a loud cry he saw the child under the bus and raised an alarm. The van driver D. Bunty drove a few meters and stopped the vehicle. As villagers gathered he fled from the spot leaving the van behind. Angry villagers damaged the windshields of the bus. Based on a complaint from Narsimha a case of accidental death was registered against the driver who is absconding.
