Marriage season rush in Godavari

The problem is compounded in August as there are only six muhurthas (auspicious days).

KAKINADA: The marriage season is fast approaching in August in the two Godavari districts, and this time, there is a great eagerness and rush to perform the marriages as they could not be performed for more than a year due to the Godavari Pushkaralu.

There is a great demand for performing marriages at the holy shrines of Lord Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy atop Ratnagiri hills in Annavaram in East Godavari and Lord Sri Venkateswara Temple, known as China Tirupathi, in West Godavari district.

The problem is compounded in August as there are only six muhurthas (auspicious days). “Of the six, August 20, 21 and 22 are considered to be the most auspicious for marriage though the good days begin from August 5,” said astrologer Bharat Bhushan' Saripella Sriramachandra Murthy Siddanthi.

He said that thousands of marriages may be performed in the Godavari districts on those six days and the concern is whether the temples at Annavaram and Dwaraka Tirumala will be able to meet the rush.

The temple authorities are confident, though, of the arrangements being adequate. “We are getting ready 32 kalyana mandapams and 120 rooms and dormitories, but it will be difficult giving them out on two days, August 18 and 20” said Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Murthy Devasthanam executive officer K. Nageswara Rao.
