BBMP to transfer 2,304 officials soon

A list of 2,304 officials has been prepared for internal transfers.

Bengaluru: With the BBMP trying to revamp its entire administration in a bid to eliminate corruption from its corridors, a list of 2,304 officials has been prepared for internal transfers.

Those who have been working at a particular zone/office for over three years in the last five years are on the transfer list, which includes overstaying officials from the engineering, revenue, horticulture and forest, education and health departments.

They include both senior and junior health inspectors as well as other officials, like first division assistants (FDAs), stenographers, second division assistants (SDAs), typists, and peons.

The BBMP administrative department has put up the transfer list and called for objections. After the objections are filed, the next stage is counseling, after which officials will be transferred, said BBMP sources.

Among the 2,304 officials being transferred, the biggest reshuffle is in the Revenue Department with 561 transfers. It is followed by the transfer of 556 peons, 414 second division assistants, 259 engineers, 234 first division assistants, and 118 junior health inspectors.

BBMP sources said that majority of the officials who have overstayed at their posts are from the Revenue Department. This is because corruption is deep-rooted in the revenue and engineering departments, they said.

“The circular from the government, which states that only 6% transfers are possible at one go, is not applicable, according to BBMP guidelines as the civic authority comes only within the city. That is the reason the administrative department of the civic body has powers to make zonal transfers who have overstayed in their posts in the last five years,” said Mr Rajanna, Administrative Committee Chairman.

“We have put up the list of transfers and called for filing objections. The last day to file objections is Tuesday (July 26) evening, after which scrutiny and counseling will be done for two days (July 27 and 28). On July 29 and 30, the officials will be transferred and released to their respective new departments and offices,” added Rajanna.
