Thrissur Pooram to go on as per tradition

Authorities decide to take safety measures.

Thrissur: The temple authorities at Uthralikkavu in Wadakkanchery here have decided to conduct the pooram and fireworks as per tradition taking all the safety measures. The safety guidelines laid down by Petroleum and Safety Explosives Organizations (PESO) and district administration bans high decibel ‘Kuzhiminal’ and dynamite during Sunday evening's sample fireworks, and the main firework at 4.45 am on March 1. Even though there is no official permission, low decibel colour gunds are made part of fireworks by an understating with the officials and police.

The PESO circular based on Explosives Rules 2008 categorises high decibel gunds as unauthorised. There will be a lot of Chinese fireworks on display which has less sound but more light and colour. Pooram organising committee member P. G. Raveendran said the Festival Co-ordination Committee had got an assurance from ministers V.S. Sunil Kumar and A.C. Moideen at a meeting here Saturday for fireworks at Uthralikkavu. “All safety measures will be followed,” he told DC. The committee called off their protest beginning Sunday by erecting huts in front of the houses of three ministers from Thrissur including that of C. Raveendranath after the assurance.
