Perambra to host first skill centre

The centre will provide skill-based training to unemployed youth enabling them to secure sustainable livelihood

KOZHIKODE: State Government has sanctioned career development institutions of international standards in every district. They will provide skill-based training to unemployed youth enabling them to secure sustainable livelihood. The employment department will begin the first institution in the state at Perambra by January. “The employability centre initiated by the previous government entrusted the responsibility of running them to private companies, whereas the career development institution would be under National Employment Service Scheme (Ness)," said Abdul Nazar, a Ness official.

"The first one will start functioning on the civil station campus in a 1500-square feet area with a training hall, internet library, career library and above all, an expert team to conduct counselling. We also offer specialised skill development courses that include training in soft skills, computer and English language." There will be strict assessment and certification process, he said, thus making candidates fit for the job in the industry one chooses. After the launch of the pilot institution, more such centres would come up at various parts of the state, including rural areas.
