Agriculture Minister V S Sunil Kumar evokes Sree Narayana Guru to fight communalism

Deputy DM Dr Bindu was honoured in the event.

Thrissur: Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar has expressed reservation against giving religious colour to celebrations in the state and the political and communal tension it creates. The minister was speaking at Koorkenchery Sree Narayanan Hall on Sunday at a function organised by Sree Narayana Club to felicitate students who did exceptionally well in academics. The event was held as a part of the Onam celebrations conducted by the club.

“The vision and teachings of Sree Narayana Guru is the only solution for the communal polarization that we witness today. The Guru’s philosophy on religions and caste could well be the tool to fight communal elements,” he noted. He also said that celebrations like Onam were considered a festival for all, But, now there were attempts to give religions colour to such celebrations which were considered secular and to be celebrated by all, he noted.

Club president T.R. Ranju presided over the function. Koorkenchery Sree Narayanan Baktha Paripalana Yogam (SNBP) president Surya Prakesh, K.V. Sathyan, Dr K.C. Prakashan, T.R. Vijaya-kumar among others took part. Deputy DM Dr Bindu was honoured in the event.
