Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee told to lure youngsters

The High Command wanted more representation of youths in DCC.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress High Command, during a meeting of the political affairs committee of the KPCC, asked the state leadership to ensure that only leaders below 60 years are admitted into the party. This was conveyed by AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik at the meeting of the 21-member political affairs committee on Saturday. Mr Wasnik also asked the political affairs committee to put forward suggestions regarding the reconstitution of all the 14 DCCs.

The High Command wanted more representation of youths in DCC. The restructuring of the KPCC would be taken up after the DCC is reconstituted. The AICC has already expressed their displeasure over the jumbo committees. The A group had demanded a total revamp of the KPCC, including changing KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran. The High Command’s suggestion was to go for organisational polls after revamp. However, a section believe that such a proposition was impractical.

Meanwhile, a group of youth leaders of the party has petitioned Mr Wasnik seeking an enquiry by the political affairs committee on the matter of BJP winning the Nemom seat and gaining the second position in seven constituencies of Palakkad, Malampuzha, Manjeshwaram, Kasargod, Kazhakootam, Vattiyoorkavu and Chathanoor. They have also sought reconstitution only on the basic of excellence in organisational work and public acceptance rather than on the basis of group affiliations. They have also sought the representation of SC and ST and woman candidates in different age categories for various positions in the party.
