Two sudanese quarantined in Chennai

Both were visibly tired and were not carrying the mandatory health card with them.

Chennai: Two Sudan nationals who arrived at the Chennai airport on Sunday and Monday were quarantined at the Rajiv Gandhi general hospital because of their unsatisfactory health condition.

Airport sources identified the two as Abdul Quadir (24), a student who arrived on Sunday and Mohamed Abdul (52), a businessman who arrived on Monday.

Both were visibly tired and were not carrying the mandatory health
card with them. The immigration officials detained them and sent them for medical screening as soon as they arrived. “The developments at Chennai airport have been intimated to health ministry in Delhi,” sources added.

The businessman arrived via Qatar while the student came from Sharjah. “The two Gulf countries were just stopovers and their journey originally started from Sudan,” sources said.

The Chennai airport health officer, when contacted, said two Sudanese who arrived in Chennai airport had been shifted to GH special ward where they will be kept under observation.

“It is mandatory to carry health cards to travel from and to African and South American countries. The health card makes sure that a particular passenger is traveling healthy without diseases like yellow fever or Ebola or Swine flu,” the officer said.

The Sudan nationals will be tested for these diseases and once they are found healthy and free of such diseases, they will allowed to carry on with their
work in India. Otherwise they will be deported, the officer added.
