Kamal Haasan into research on Ahimsa

Non-violence is most powerful tool in the world, which won many political battles.

Coimbatore: “I am doing research in non violence for several decades.” said actor and Padma Bhushan awardee, Kamal Haasan.

As part of the World Book day celebrations, Sapna Book House launched in Coimbatore the existing Tamil version of Mahatma Gandhi‘s Sathya Sothanai in a “Tamil friendly format,” authored by poet Kalaimamani Andal Priyadarshini, writer and head of programmes, Doordarshan Kendra.

Addressing those present at the event, Kamal Haasan said “The young people of India should read Sathya Sothanai which gives inspiration to everyone. I am doing research in the concept of non-violence concept for several decades.

Non-violence is most powerful tool in the world, which won many political battles and created world class political leaders like Martin Luther King and Mandela. In the society, the persons who are doing charitable work to uplift the downtrodden people should be considered followers of the Gandhian way.”

The actor, who is a self-confessed atheist, declared – “I don’t have piety.” He went on to exhort young people to read the books of Periyar, the Tamil social reformer of the 20th century who was also an atheist who espoused the rational cause in his movement for social justice.

The book launch was held at Suguna auditorium on Kalapatti road in Coimbatore on Sunday. The book is published by Sapna Book House.

According to Sapna book house, the new Tamil version of Sathya Sothanai has been presented in short lines and in a few paragraphs so as to be understood more easily and in a better way for the younger generations.
