Heavy rains have continued to lash Anantapur district since past two days, causing additional damage to standing crops

ANANTAPUR: Heavy rains have continued to lash Anantapur district since past two days, causing additional damage to standing crops. However, they are expected to improve groundwater levels once irrigation tanks and ponds get filled.

An APSRTC bus with 30 passengers going from Kalyandurg to Anantapur got stuck in an overflowing channel near Atmakur mandal headquarters on Friday. Fire department crews rushed and rescued passengers to safety will the help of locals.

A big tree got uprooted and fell on road between Kambadur and Kalyandurg along the Bellary highway, leading to traffic building up for more than a kilometre. Kalyanadurgam police rushed to the spot and cleared the debris with help of a JCB, thereby restoring traffic.

FCI godowns at Kattakindapalli in Dharmavaram Rural mandal got inundated because of heavy rains. Goods transport vehicles carrying rice and sugar could not be unloaded as a result.

Average rainfall on Friday was 3.8 mm in the district. However, NP Kunta recorded 41.6 mm rainfall, followed by 34 mm in Rolla Mandal and 30 mm in Madakasira. With this, excess rainfall has been received by all mandals. Kalyandurg area too witnessed heavy rains.
