Kozhikode: Pulse exhibition by students turns a hit

Over 50 pulses, 100 food items on display

KOZHIKODE: The students of BEM UP School Bilathikkulam in Kozhikode commemorated the International Year of Pulses (IYP 2016) in unique way by holding an exhibition of pulses. Over 50 verities of pulses and 100 verities of food items prepared using those pulses were on display. They also had a sumptuous meal with those pulse items. Over 100 students, teachers and parents took part in the exhibition held on Tuesday. Pulse items from other states and also from foreign countries were exhibited during the programme.

Speaking to DC, School Head Master Alex Jacob said that the exhibition received positive response from students and wholehearted support from parents. “We had earlier celebrated International Year of Soil and International Year of Water in similar way. This time, we called a class-wise meeting of parents and discussed with them about the exhibition plans and made a list of items each student can bring so that there will not be any repetition of items,” he said. “With some pulses like red cow peas, a number of dishes were cooked and bought,” he added.

Muthira laddu, parippu laddu, cherupayar cutlet, kadalaparipu cake, boli, idli and cherupayar payasam were some of the items on display during the exhibition. Lima beans and Victor beans are among the foreign varieties present at the exhibition. “It was a wonderful experience to cook as well as present it in the expo,” said Arjun T.M, a seventh standard student who bought Puzhukku made from sprouted Bengal gram.
