Flybus a success: Soon, you can travel to Tirupathi, Ooty

The officer added that there is an increase in the number of passengers from various districts using the KIA to board flights.

Bengaluru: After the success of KSRTC’s Flybus service from Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to Mysuru, Madikeri, Salem and Kundapur, it is now planning to extend services to Ooty and Tirupathi. With KIA witnessing a sharp rise in number of passengers, there has been an increase in demand for bus connectivity to more destinations. KSRTC Managing Director S.R. Umashankar said, “We found that the Flybus service is a success and there is a huge demand for Tirupathi and Ooty. Numerous people flying into KIA enquire about a Flybus service to these two places.”

“We had a plan to start services to Tirupathi, but due to heavy demand we have decided to implement it at the earliest. We have placed the order for buses and as soon as they are delivered we will begin services,” Umashankar added. Another senior officer in KSRTC said, “Tirupathi was always on our mind, but Ooty took us by surprise. As the demand to travel to Ooty by road from KIA was high, we decided to consider it. There are other routes which are being studied and also the eliciting passengers’ opinions and views, based on which more Flybuses will be introduced to various destinations through KIA.”

The officer added that there is an increase in the number of passengers from various districts using the KIA to board flights. “All these passengers use different modes of transport to reach the city and then use cabs to reach KIA. This takes time and also is stressful. So we want these passengers to board the buses from their destination and reach KIA directly. In order to make it convenient, we will be extending the service to other places depending on the demand.”
