Thiruvananthapuram: The officials under minister Kadakampally Surendran have decided to mobilise school students also to battle dengue locally. The schools in the capital will observe a dry day on June 30. “Students are likely to be more connected to their house premises. So during next week, special assemblies will be convened in schools. Health officials will have to address students for 10-15 minutes on the way to curb dengue causing mosquitoes,” Minister Surendran said.

All political parties have been directed to mobilise their workers for the state level cleaning drive from June 27-29. Rapid action forces headed by health workers will comprise Kudumbashree members, asha workers, anganwadi staff and NGOs. “In Thiruvananthapuram rural, every panchayat official should inform the local police station which will provide officials to help in clean-up drives,” said Ashok Kumar, Rural SP. He added that residents associations also should help in identifying dengue hotspots.

“There will be investigations in every location with dengue outbreak. Intense source reduction activities should be carried out in the area,” he said. Meanwhile, the District Medical Officer (DMO) said that only three confirmed dengue deaths and seven suspected cases of dengue deaths had been reported in the capital this year.
