Nokkukooli: Kerala High Court asks cops to protect firm

Kozhikode: The High court has issued an order, directing that police protection be given to the plumbing and fire-fighting firm that took up the contract of Asset homes Pvt. Ltd at Thrikkakkara, Kochi, after several trade unions hindered its work demanding ‘Nokkukooli’. The firm, from Kozhikode, had moved the HC after trade union leaders took Rs 14,000 as Nokkukooli and demanded more not to block construction works.

The firm, Z TEC MEP Services LLP, had filed a writ petition in the High Court saying that it was being stopped by trade unions at the worksite in Thrikkakkara demanding ‘Nokkukooli’. The firm had also approached the chief minister, state police chief as well as the district police chief seeking their immediate intervention.

On Friday, the court in its interim order, directed that police protection be provided to the petitioner’s staff and its workers to complete the plumbing work undertaken by the petitioner at Asset Petals work site of Asset homes Pvt. Ltd, near district jail, Kakkanad. The firm also produced the recorded telephonic conversation where the union leaders confirm accepting the charges of Rs 5,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. In total, they had to give Rs 14,000 to different trade union leaders belonging to CITU and INTUC, alleged managing director Sunil P.K.
