Hyderabad: Death was a close call for younger kid

Sources said that Thaswanth's younger brother Srinath was running behind him and could also have been a victim.

Hyderabad: Cholangi Srinivas, an agricultural labourer, migrated from East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh to Hyderabad with his wife Kumari and two sons, Thaswanth and his younger brother Srinath, three years ago. Srinivas started working as a watchman in the SVS Satyasai apartment building, located in Durganagar in Karmanghat at Saroornagar.

He had no words to describe the ghastly incident, while his wife lay inconsolable near their child’s body. Both children were playing close by him in the cellar while he was cleaning the cars. This was a regular practice and they had played at the same spot, near the lift, many times.

“It was a common play area for all the kids in the apartment, but we never expected that such an incident will take our child away from us. I was an eyewitness to it,” said Srinivas.

Sources said that Thaswanth’s younger brother Srinath was running behind him and could also have been a victim, but escaped the mishap by a fraction of a second.

Builder’s negligence to be probed: Cops

An eight-year-old boy who was playing in the cellar of an apartment building, died after he was hit by the apartment lift in Karmanghat in Saroornagar.

Thaswanth did not notice that the lift was descending. As he bent to look into the pit, the lift landed on his head.

“The boy got struck between the wall and the lift and his head was partly crushed. He died on the spot,” said J. Venkatakrishna, SI of Saroornagar police station.

The SI added that the lift area was not fenced off as it should have been.“Prima facie, a case of suspicious death has been registered”, he said.

“But we are also probing if there is any negligence from the builder in leaving the area unprotected. Based on the evidence, we will proceed with the investigation,” the inspector added.
