Malabar Devaswom Board faults trusts

Corruption rampant, will take over temples.

KOZHIKODE: Malabar Devaswam Board (MDB) president O.K. Vasu has called for taking control of all temples in Malabar, including those controlled by the Zamorins, to end the alleged nepotism and corruption in temple administration. Addressing reporters here on Friday Mr Vasu said that corruption is rampant in temples controlled by private trustees. The temple administration should be completely handed over to MDB, he added. Widespread financial malpractices, nepotism in appointments and corruption have ruined temples under trustees, he added.

“As in the case of Travancore and Kochi Devaswam Boards, the trustees of Malabar also will have only ritualistic role in the temples of Malabar in future,” he said. On the RSS attempts to seize power in temple administration, Mr Vasu said that RSS wrests power in temples as CPM workers keep off from the temples. RSS men are not real believers, he said. Mr Vasu also added that trusts were trying to take over the temples from the princely states of Zamorins, Valluvako-nathiri and Chirakkal families. The Gopalakrishnan Commission Report on the control of trustees of royal families is under the serious consideration of the state, he said.
