Chennai corporation to petition higher level cops on Adambakkam Inspector

For once, the AIADMK councillors also seconded the DMK councillors take on this issue.

Chennai: Seeking to put an end to the menace of the interference of Adambakkam police in constructions, renovations, and road cuts in a pocket, the Zone XII of Chennai Corporation, in its meeting, resolved to write to the Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), South, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) St Thomas Mount.

The zonal meeting, chaired by Parimala Nandakumar, started off with scores of DMK councillors alleging that the Adambakkam police Inspector and his juniors were mounting a close vigil on any building activity and road cuts in their jurisdiction.

"The cops would take the construction, or renovation site owner, and
the construction workers into custody soon after the work begins after storing the bricks, sand, and other materials in the vicinity of the site. They would force those taken in custody to furnish them with copies of the plan approvals from CMDA among other things until those taken into custody offer handsome illegal gratification," the DMK councillors alleged.

For once, the AIADMK councillors also seconded the DMK councillors take on this issue. The AIADMK councillors went further and announced that the shoddy act of cops tarnished the image of the civic body and earned the
government a bad reputation. Adding credence to the claims of the councillors, Krishnamoorthy, Engineer, Metro Water, Zone XII, stated that he was in dearth of workers to mend the leakages in water lines and sewer lines.

"There are no takers for the work since the cops would take the workers into custody when the work commences and would let them off only in the night after taking everything from their pocket," charged Krishnamoorthy.

Though councillors insisted on passing a resolution condemning the acts of the police, Sengottaiyan, Assistant Commissioner, Zone XII, intervened and suggested that they would make a representation to the superior officers instead of passing a resolution. The matter was disposed off in the meeting accordingly.
