SCERT to release draft syllabus in Tamil

After spending over four months, SCERT uploaded the revised syllabus for classes 1 to 12 on Monday.

Chennai: The State Council for Educational Research and Training is expected to release the entire draft syllabus in Tamil in the next few days, according to sources.

After spending over four months, SCERT uploaded the revised syllabus for classes 1 to 12 on Monday. Except for a few subjects remaining syllabus and position papers were released in English.

School teachers demanded the documents to be released in Tamil. When asked about the demand, an SCERT official said, “The directorate is working on Tamil translation. It will be released in a few days and teachers will be given further one week time to give their feedback.”

Teachers and headmasters, in general, have welcomed the draft syllabus.

“The draft syllabus was prepared well comparing the other state boards like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Maharashtra. The proposed changes in evaluation pattern and textbooks will prepare the students well for competitive exams,” said Sami.Sathiamoorthy, state president, Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary Schools Headmasters’ Association.

V.Manivasagan, state president, Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary Post-Graduate Teachers Association, said, “Some changes made in the draft new syllabus compared to the old one.

But, we have to wait and see how they going write these chapters and revise the evaluation pattern and question papers which can impact the learning outcome.”

“The teachers also should be adequately trained for new syllabus,” he urged.
English subject is also revamped aiming to make students acquire various new skills.

“After comparing various boards we have added some new topics to bridge the gap in the state board syllabus. The topics also will be presented with recent developments in their relevant fields,” a source said.

The evaluation system will completely be changed. “We have prepared to learn outcome for each lesson with details like the skills we expect the students to acquire after completing it. We have also decided not to give any blueprint for higher secondary syllabus,” the source said.
