Highway expansion works begin in Anantapur

Three bridges including a road overbridge at Clock Tower have been sanctioned under the highway connectivity project

ANANTAPUR: The National Highway division here aims to complete the NH four-lane connectivity between Bellary Bypass Road and Pangal Road on the Chennai Highway, that would pass through Anantapur city, in a matter of 18 months.

Three bridges including a road overbridge at Clock Tower have been sanctioned under the highway connectivity project. The construction company started preparatory works at the bridges of ROB and the Pangal Road bridge across Pandameru.

The Anantapur division NH engineer said though the construction company was told to finish the works in two years’ time, “We aim to complete all the works in 18 months, as major roads and circles in the heart of the city are involved.”

The said the traffic on the main roads have to be diverted till the completion of works.

The construction companies offered the pooja a week ago. The preparatory works including jungle clearance at Pangal Road were being done. Teams from the construction company were conducting tests about the nature of the earth at the proposed bridges.

The National Highways sanctioned Rs 310 crore for work on the connectivity between the NH 44 Road at Bellary Bypass and the Chennai Highway Road at Pangal Road on the outskirts of Anantapur. The expansion would cover a 9.2km-long road that passes through Anantapur city --via the Collectorate Road, Suryanagar, Subhash Road and clock tower -- and connects with NH 44 at Bellary Bypass Road. A sum of about Rs 272 crore was allotted for the civil works.

Urban MLA Ananta Reddy said the four lane connectivity would clear traffic hurdles at the main centres like Clock Tower, where a two-lane road bridge existed and a four-lane bridge would be constructed.
