Bengaluru: Shop owner’s wife fights off robbers

The incident took place at Samrat Jewels when the shop owner Ashish Kumar and his wife Rakhi were present waiting for customers.

Bengaluru: An intrepid wife of a jeweller foiled a robbery attempt in broad daylight by three armed robbers at her husband's shop in Vyalikaval on Wednesday, and forced them to beat a hasty retreat.

The incident took place at Samrat Jewels when the shop owner Ashish Kumar and his wife Rakhi were present waiting for customers.

Around 2:30 pm three unidentified robbers got down from a bike and parked it in front of the shop. They walked into the shop under the pretext of buying gold, but one of them pulled out a gun and pointed at Ashish. They told him to hand over all the jewellery in the shop.

While Ashish was panic sticken, Rakhi mustered courage and threw a chair on the armed robber. As the chair hit his hand, the robber misfired, and the trio fled empty handed.

Ashish chased the three for about 50 metres before they disappeared in the narrow lanes. The accused left behind their bike in front of the shop.

Vyalikaval police rushed to the spot and secured the area. The police have seized the bike used by the robbers and are investigating.

Joint commissioner (Crime), Sandeep Patil, who visited the spot, said the Vyalikaval police have registered a case. He said that no one was hurt in the incident and nothing was stolen from the shop.

City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao too visited the spot and investigated the scene.

A special team has been formed to nab the accused.

The police have obtained footage from the CCTVs installed inside the shop to identify the robbers.
