Fifteen kids rescued from traffickers in Parassala

Trafficking of children from other states to Kerala had hit the headlines last year

Thiruvananthapuram: The railway police rescued 15 minors from Odisha at Parassala on the outskirts of the capital on Thursday. The RPF intercepted around 145 youngsters who were being taken from Odisha on the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Ananthapuri Express. It was revealed that Rabi Ram Mishra, 48, of Odisha was taking the group for work in a garment export company at Kinfra Park at Kazhakuttom.

Though most of them belonged to the age group of 18-19, the police found that 15 of them were minors. Mishra was arrested and charged under the relevant sections of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015. Trafficking of children from other states to Kerala had hit the headlines last year after 450 children from Bihar and Jharkhand were brought to a few Muslim-run orphanages in North Kerala. The railway police had then held the children at Palakkad and booked cases against their agent as they had no proper documents or tickets.
