Kerala: No allotment for five self-financing engineering colleges

3 govt colleges, 1 aided college and 23 SF colleges have 1240 seats for architecture

Thiruvananthapuram: The commissioner for entrance examinations (CEE) has decided not to allot students to five self-financing engineering colleges disqualified by the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University for poor academic standards. Education minister C. Raveendranath told reporters while releasing the engineering entrance rank list on Monday that these colleges had moved the court against the decision of the university. Any decision would be based on its verdict.

The minister also said the government would take a decision on closing down more self-financing engineering colleges with less pass percentage on its basis. At present, there are 46,445 seats in private self-financing, 5,232 in government and 7,119 in government-controlled self-financing colleges. Apart from that, three government colleges, one aided college and 23 self-financing colleges together have 1240 seats for architecture.

There are 160 engineering colleges including nine government, three aided, five university-controlled colleges and 21 government-controlled self-financing and 119 private self-financing engineering colleges. Mr Raveendranath said the government had already filed an appeal before the high court against the favourable verdict given to a sports association challenging the present sports quota allotment process.
