Thiruvananthapuram: Amidst the charges of a collapse in the law and order situation in the state, the police intelligence has submitted a list of 2010 history-sheeters who can be booked under the anti-goonda Act. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had vowed to crack down on the goons after an actor was allegedly kidnapped and raped by miscreants the other day. Additional Director-General of Police (Intelligence) B. Syed Mohammed Yasin handed over the list of suspects to the respective Range IGs, district collectors and district police chiefs.
Alappuzha (336), Kannur (305) and Thiruvananthapuram (226) have the most number of goons who could be detained under the Kerala Anti-social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA). Ernakulam city and rural have a total of 218 goons in the list whereas 176 people from Thrissur and 64 from Kozhikode city and rural figured in the list. “The list includes the members of organised crime rackets and history-sheeters who were arrested under the KAAPA previously also.
The goons in Kannur include those who are involved in political violence. The others are linked to rapes, blade mafia, mining mafia and drug rackets,” said a top official. The district collectors have been directed to pro-actively order preventive detention of those in the list. The Thiruvananthapuram city police has already started a drive under the name “Nagaravetta” to keep goons under leash. Mr Pinarayi Vijayan had directed the state police chief Loknath Behera to submit a detailed report on goonda activities in a month’s time.
