Pained Vairamuthu calls Andal his mother

In this video, Vairamuthu termed Andal his mother through whom he learnt the nuances of his mother tongue Tamil.

Chennai: A day after the Madras high court stayed the proceedings against Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu for his controversial remarks on Goddess Andal, Vairamuthu turned emotional on Saturday, releasing a 10-minute video appealing to the public that he was pained to see the recent developments in Tamil Nadu and clarified again that he had no intention to make any adverse remark against Andal.

In this video, Vairamuthu termed Andal his mother through whom he learnt the nuances of his mother tongue Tamil.

“Angammal is the mother, who gave birth to me. Andal is also my mother who taught Tamil to me through her Tamil literary works. She was the first woman, who spoke about liberation in the male-dominated eight-century. Her dedication towards Lord Perumal is recorded in various literary works”.

“I researched on her poems for three months and also read the works penned by Alwars. I also read how Osho and other foreign scholars have glorified Andal”, he said

“In my well-prepared speech, I only seconded the writings of others terming Andal as Devadasi and this means that Andal is willing only to marry Lord Perumal and is not willing to marry any other person like the regular women, thus putting my mother on a high pedestal. But this was interpreted as Daasi and then Vesi by vested interests to create an uproar among Tamils”.

“I am disgraced by what has happened and this had killed the cuckoo in me making me a dead living being. The singing bird in me is silenced, due to the controversy. Will anyone speak ill about his own mother who preached Tamil, emphasised Vairamuthu. I only wanted to spread the glory of mother Andal among the younger generation,” the video reiterated.
