Kochi: The Justice V R Krishna Iyer Movement that spearheads the movement for setting up the Kochi Cancer Reserach Centre has made it clear that the Union government-owned Hospital Service Consultancy Corporation (HSCC) Limited be entrusted with the task of implementing the project. “In fact it was in response to our consistent demand that the UDF government had brought HSCC to the picture and entrusted it with the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) of the project,” said Dr N.K. Sanil Kumar who is among those who lead the Krishna Iyer Movement.
“We have seen the merits and benefits of involving DMRC and its principal consultant E. Sreedharan in the implementation of the Kochi Metro Rail project. Likewise, HSCC with its vast experience in implementing health projects should be entrusted with the task of implementing Kochi Cancer Research Centre project.” Meanwhile, Ernakulam MLA Hibi Eden came out with a written statement reminding the government that the people wanted not just another cancer hospital but a cancer research institute of international standards in Kochi.
“By entrusting the dream project with INKEL, which has so far not implemented any project worth mention, a big scam is surfacing,” Mr Eden said. He said he he was unable to understand the silence of the CPM leadership in the district which vociferously demanded during the tenure of the UDF government that the project should be entrusted with the HSCC. “A cursory glance of the projects implemented by HSCC will reinforce the relevance of entrusting the Cancer Centre project with it,” Mr Eden said, adding the people wanted a the government not to entrust the project with INKEL “which does not have the credentials of even a private financing company.”
