M M Mani calls sub-collector V R Premkumar lunatic

The minister also said that Idukki district was not getting the consideration it deserved.

KOCHI: Electricity minister M.M. Mani, known for his intemperate language, has described Devikulam sub-collector, V.R. Premkumar, as a 'lunatic' for cancelling the title-deeds of nearly 28 acres of land at Kottakkambur village in Idukki district including that of Joice George, MP, and his family members. Speaking at a civic reception to him at Irattayattil the other day, the minister launched a verbal volley against the official. "We will not approve the actions taken by a lunatic who came from somewhere," he said. "The sub-collector has committed something unbecoming of his position." He accused him of cancelling the title deed of the LDF lawmaker at the behest of Congress.

He claimed that the Oommen Chandy government had failed to trap Mr George over the issue despite trying their level best. The minister also said that Idukki district was not getting the consideration it deserved. Mr Mani has launched a diatribe against the official at a time when the Supreme Court is examining whether a case should be registered against him for using intemperate language against members of the Pempilai Orumai, the organisation of women plantation workers in Munnar, a few months ago.
