Hyderabad: To increase the percentage in the government schools, the Hyderabad district administration has launched a massive exercise.
Since decades, Hyderabad has been recording a poor show with the last position among all other districts in the pass percentage. Government schools in the city have become a den for failed candidates and with the ‘zero result’.
Though the government is taking a special care on education by providing more facilities and scholarships to government schools, there is no improvement in the results in Hyderabad district.
While Warangal was top in pass percentage earlier, Jagityal, the newly formed district, took it away in 2017 with 97.3 per cent. Hyderabad has not crossed the 77 per cent limit in the last two years.
To increase the pass percentage in the city, Dr Yogita Rana, Hyderabad district collector, started an exercise three months back with the education department. “We are frequently organising reviews on ‘slow learners’ in government schools and concentrating on them in increasing their skills in weak subjects,” she said.
As per the directions of the collector, all the Mandal Education Officers (MEOs), 400 Cluster Resource Persons (CRPs) and 180 headmasters are frequently holding parent-teacher meetings for the ‘slow learners’.
“In the last three months, we got good results. We have categorised students in three groups. From January 1, we will take up special classes for those who are backward in completing the syllabus,” she said.
While the city has 683 government schools, there are 180 high schools with classes up to 10th standard. “In the last three months, we organised four workshops and our steps have yielded good results. By December 15, all the government schools will complete the syllabus for 10th standard. We hope, the city will have good results this time,” the collector added.
