BJP in no mood to give up on P V Anwar

Party has a feeling that so far it failed to take the issue to the streets by way of agitations as it did in the case of Thomas Chandy.

KOZHIKODE: BJP is planning to intensify the agitation against ruling legislator P.V. Anwar as the state government and district administration are lethargic on taking action against him despite a series of evidence surfacing against him from various quarters. Party has a feeling that so far it failed to take the issue to the streets by way of agitations as it did in the case of Thomas Chandy. Party state committee has discussed the issue and decided to launch a campaign saying only BJP can cash in on the situation. It alleges that both UDF and LDF are helpless as most of their "leaders are on his payroll."

The focus of the campaign would be the excess land in his possession violating rules and failure of the state to initiate action. BJP state general secretary K. Surendran said his party would change its strategies. "So far we kept off from organising any major on ground agitation. But now we should organise some serious agitation against the series of corruption charges supported by evidence," he told DC. The District Congress Committee here had asked the Congress-ruled Koodaranhi panchayat to initiate strict action against the amusement park of Mr Anwar.

Though one of the complainants approached the panchayat with a copy of the order of State Pollution Control Board denying permission for the park, the panchayat refused to accept it. However, DCC president T. Siddique termed the failure of the panchayat a sequel to the failure of LDF government. He said if there was a report by the PCB, the state government should have immediately passed it on to the panchayat officially which would help the local body to initiate action. But the DCC failed to take any disciplinary measures against the Congress panchayat unit.
