10 women inspectors of CS-CID shunted out

Tuesday's transfer orders, which DC had accessed, were issued from the office of the Director General of Police (L&O - in-charge) T. K. Rajendran.

Chennai: Ten women inspectors posted to the state’s Civil Supplies - Criminal Investigation Division (CS-CID) have been shunted out of the department before they got into the field in districts.

The state had set a precedent by setting up the country’s first all women police station but alleged misogyny that prevails among top brass of force has resulted in this move.

Tuesday’s transfer orders, which DC had accessed, were issued from the office of the Director General of Police (L&O - in-charge) T. K. Rajendran. The current transferred lot is part of 180 women SIs of 2004 batch promoted and ordered postings on September 22 to the CS-CID.

Subsequently, CS-CID DGP K. Radhakrishnan had communicated to the officials concerned, who are to relieve the promotees not to do so until further orders, it is learnt.

He had also placed a request to Mr Rajendran to reconsider the postings, and it was conceded. Prior to Tuesday’s transfer, two of the women inspectors were repatriated and placed under compulsory waitlist at the Chief Office in the first posting itself on September 30.

Following a media report, the CS-CID top brass allowed the rest of the women officers to join CS-CID, and they were retained in Chennai without being assigned to the field.

Eight of the 31 district SPs were women IPS officers. This shows that nearly 25 per cent of the officers administering law & order across the state are women.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in his address earlier in July, on instituting ‘Sarvottam’ Seva medals to women police, had recalled as to how they are towing the line of Tamil Nadu in setting up all women police stations.
Every time when the Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa reads out the policy note for the home department, she would recall the same of as to how the state pioneers in augmenting women on board in the force.

The repatriated inspectors, N. Manimegalai, has been posted to Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption (DVAC), and N. Manjula to Greater Chennai Police, with immediate effect.

The rest were transferred from CS-CID to the divisions/units/zones mentioned within brackets: R. Dheivarani (Crime), S. Karpagam (West Zone), S.C. Hemalatha (West Zone), M. Amutha (West Zone), S. Valarmathi(Salem City), K. Krishnaveni (North Zone), A. Ponnammal (West Zone), and K. Punitha (DVAC).
