Rural cinema on comeback trail: Cultural Minister A K Balan

Another 100 more movie halls will be started with the help of NRI investors, he added.

Kochi: Cultural Minister A.K. Balan on Saturday said that the government is keen on bringing back movie halls that disappeared from the rural landscapes. Inaugurating the renovated Kairali and Sree theatres of Chitranjali in North Paravoor near here, he said that 30 new movie halls will be started this year itself. Another 100 more movie halls will be started with the help of NRI investors, he added.

He also said that the state government is looking into the proposals of investors to start 400 movie halls in the state. He further said that another project for turning the Chitranjali studio in Thiruvananthapuram into a mini film city is now being implemented. A theatre complex will come up here incorporating a number of movie halls, he added. The Minister also said that with this the shortage of movie halls for the international film festival held in the state capital every year will come to an end. He also said that cultural centres will be built in each district at a cost of Rs 40 crore each.
