KPCC president M M Hassan invites Sonia Gandhi to Kerala

Mr Hassan's detractors claim that he is trying to ensure his continuation as KPCC chief at least till the next general elections.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KPCC president M. M. Hassan, who called on party president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday, gave her a report on the family meetings held in the state coinciding with the birth centenary celebrations of former prime minister Indira Gandhi. “I have invited Sonia Gandhi to attend the valedictory function of the family meetings,” he said. He also held talks with Mr Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Ms Sonia Gandhi, and Mr Mukul Wasnik, AICC general secretary.

Mr Hassan’s detractors claim that he is trying to ensure his continuation as KPCC chief at least till the next general elections. Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala too favours him rather than prominent ‘I’ group leaders like V.D. Satheesan MLA and K.C. Venugopal MP, who are eyeing the post. However, many leaders feel that a stronger leader who can smoothen the communal equations should lead the party.
