Chennai: After ducking for more than two years, the Chennai Corporation that announced setting up of Amma theatres in 2014 corporation budget has now intensified its administrative works in setting up the theatres. According to Ripon Building sources, the scheme is now getting significance ahead of the corporation council elections to be scheduled in October.
Communications have been sent to the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) seeking it to play a key role in implementing the project. Soon officials from NFDC will visit locations identified for development of Amma theatres shortly and help the corporation with its expertise, corporation sources said.
Corporation properties located in Shenoy Nagar, T Nagar, Ramapuram, Kotturpuram and Basin Bridge are under examination and the team is to be taken on a tour to show the available buildings that can be converted. The parameters like the cost of tickets, seating capacity and the kind of movies to be screened are still pending at the policy level, sources added.
