Aerobic bins get public nod in Kozhikode

Kudumbashree is also set to join the programme in coming days

KOZHIKODE: The aerobic bin waste management programme the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation launched is gaining momentum. The installation of bins is progressing in four wards on a pilot basis, and the civic body is planning to provide them to all houses here by August end. Kudumbashree will also join the programme in coming days as per a decision reached at a meeting on Tuesday.

Dr Reena Anilkumar, executive director of the Centre for Research and Development in Health, Hygiene and Environment (CRDHHE), the implementing agency, said its workers would get training to use the system and to solve the issues the residents confront. “They will make sure the residents are using the bins in the right way and will also distribute inoculum. We will soon prepare a detailed plan on the duties of Kudumbashree workers,” she told DC.

At present, CRDHHE executives are distributing and installing the bins. Though the pilot project has been launched in six wards, only Thiruthiyad, Eranhipalam, Chakkorathukulam and Athanikkal are installing the bins at present. In Karaparamba and Nadakkavu, only the survey process was completed. Based on the feedback, the civic body is planning to expand the project to other wards too.
