Cops to penalise fancy number plates, tinted glass

He said vehicle owners using sun shades, curtains and black screens will have to remove them

Hyderabad: The city police said on Saturday that they would be penalising vehicles found with irregular number plates and with tinted glasses from Sunday. To this end, police began checking vehicles on Saturday.

Traffic police officers will verify whether the registration number is genuine by checking with the documents

The norms to be consider are size of the plate and tampering of numbers and alphabets to avoid detection by traffic police.

Also penalised will be those inscribing words like ’police’, ’government vehicle’, ’corporator’, ’press’, ’Army’, ‘MLA’, ‘MP’ on the number plate, A.V. Ranganath, joint commissioner of police (traffic), said in a press release.

Tinted glasses on vehicles, except in the Z and Z+ security categories, should be immediately removed. Otherwise they will be removed by the police and a fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed, Ranganath said.

He said vehicle owners using sun shades, curtains and black screens will have to remove them. This includes TSRTC, private and tourist buses and school buses, Ranganath said.

Sources said the decision to ban stickers and inscribing on number plates was taken following the accident in which a vehicle bearing the sticker of TRS Bodhan MLA Shakil Aamir Mohammed was involved in a fatal accident on March 17.
