Bengaluru: Sandalwood film producer Shashi Kumar attempted suicide by consuming poison at his residence in Kamakshipalya on Thursday. Shashikumar had produced a Kannada movie Half-Mental with a total expenditure of Rs 3.25 crore.
However, he could not release the movie over the past one-and-half years due to non-availability of distributors and cinema houses. Shashikumar who has already taken huge amount of loans, was again asked to arrange Rs 80 lakh for the release of the movie.
This could be the reason for him attempting to take the extreme step, the police said. Shashikumar was found lying unconscious in his car parked near a bus stand. The family members rushed him to a private hospital where he is being treated.
