Hyderabad: An illegal unit of manufacturing banned tobacco products was raided by the Rachakonda special operations team (Malkajgiri zone) at Ghatkesar and apprehended one person. Police seized banned tobacco products and machinery worth Rs 8 lakh from the unit.

Special Operations Team (SOT) inspector G. Naveen Kumar said that acting upon a tip-off, the team raided a house at Venkat Sai Nagar in Chowdaryguda in Ghatkesar on Wednesday, where one Sanjeev Kumar Upadhyaya (44) was caught for manufacturing gutkha, a banned tobacco product. Sanjeev was preparing gutka and packing them with various brand names and has been selling the banned product to local traders. About 1.94 lakh pouches of gutkha, two machines used for making and packing the product and mobile phone, all worth Rs 8 lakh have been seized and handed him over to the Ghatkesar police, said the inspector.

In another incident, a house near Radhika X roads in Kushaiguda was raided, where three persons Ganesh Chinadaram (30), a mason from Uppal and two others Laxman Beemara Waghmera (52) and Rama Shanker Zamada (37), were playing three-cards game, which is banned under the AP Gaming Act.
