Chennai: In busting a plus-2 exam scandal in a private school in Erode district, the Directorate of Government Examinations found out that a few answers in Chemistry and Maths answer sheets were not written by the students.
After investigation, the school education department suspended four government school teachers, including two headmasters who were on exam duty in the school.
During the evaluation of Chemistry answer sheets, it was found that in some answer scripts scoring high marks had different handwriting in some answers.
Sources in DGE said that the answer scripts of five students had different handwritings in their papers for a three-mark question. But all those different answers had been written by the same person as they looked identical.
The information was passed to the directorate of government exams, which ordered a complete revaluation of the papers in that particular exam centre in Adharsh Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Bhavani in Erode district. It came to light that in the Maths paper also a few one-mark answers were corrected.
Sources said the secret inquiry conducted by the department of government exams revealed the Chemistry answers were written after the examinations. Still, it was not clear who wrote the answers in the scripts.
The directorate of government exams withheld the exam results of five students. It also had recommended strict action against the headmasters and teachers who were in charge of conducting exams in the centre.
The school education department suspended Chief superintendent of the hall A.L.Naseer, additional superintendent Joseph Sagaya Raj, both headmasters of government schools and Arumugam, department officer and Murugan additional department officer, both PG assistants in a government school. All the four were working in the Erode district.
The directorate of government exams has withheld the results of five students. Sources said all the five students are wards of teachers. When contacted, the director of government examinations D. Vasundradevi said she could not comment on the issue as the matter is sub judice. Three students have approached the court against the withholding of their results.
Sami.Sathiamoorthy, president, Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary Schools’ Headmasters Association said the education department has punished the teachers before proving the charges. The real culprits should be identified and punished. He also demanded reduction of students in the private schools saying it is difficult to supervise the exam written by thousands of students in one centre.
