Bengaluru: Bishop Cotton Boy’s School in association with the United Nations organised a first of its kind event to empower women in the city on Thursday. Titled ‘HeforShe’, the programme aims to empower, provide quality and fight atrocities against women. The event is being held over three days at the Bishop Cotton Boy’s School in Bengaluru
Bishop Cotton Boy’s School treasurer Daniel Christopher said, “Around 1,500 students from more than 100 schools participated in the event on Thursday. The main speakers on Thursday were sandalwood actress Ramya and Tamil megastar Rajnikath’s daughter and an established film director in her own right - Aishwarya R. Dhanush, and Bengaluru city Mayor G. Padmavathi. A pledge will be taken by 2000 students on Friday to safeguard the rights of women and on Saturday a cyclothon, walkathon and marathon have been planned.”
In her address fim actress Ramya said, “Men must have a part in women’s empowerment.” She also spoke about how men must respectfully treat all women irrespective of age or status.
Aishwarya R. Dhanush spoke about the fact that her husband is a popular film star and how she deals with all the attention. She said that men must treat all women well be it a daughter, mother, sister or even a girlfriend. She exhorted the boys and asked them to mingle with girls so they could communicate on the same wavelength.
Mayor, G. Padmavathi stressed on the fact that women have been given 33 per cent reservation in BBMP. She added that out of 190 wards nearly 103 had women corporators. She insisted that she did not feel suppressed as a woman in the BBMP and added that women corporators were given due importance.
