Tahera Trust coaching camp for blind women cricketers

Seven teams from Delhi, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha and West Bengal had participated in that tournament

Vijayawada: Guntur-based Tahera Trust will organise a coaching camp for 40 blind women cricketers of Andhra Pradesh in December this year. A team selected from among them will participate in the second edition of National Cricket Tournament for Blind Women scheduled in February / March 2022.

Tahera Trust founder Zahara Begum recalled that the first Women’s National Cricket Tournament for Blind was conducted in T20 format from December 16–19, 2019, in New Delhi. Seven teams from Delhi, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha and West Bengal had participated in that tournament. She said no team from Andhra Pradesh could participate as Cricket Association for Blind in AP (CABAP) lacked funds and sponsors.

Zahara Begum said following this, Tahera Trust has requested CABAP president John David and Gorrepati Ravindra Babu, state president, Visually Challenged Employees Association, Andhra Pradesh, for help in forming a cricket team of blind women in the state. The trust will offer coaching to 40 women blind cricketers at RDT Grounds in Anantapur district or ACA Grounds at Mulapadu in Krishna district.

The trust founder said this will give a good opportunity for women blind cricketers to hone their skills.
