Electricity Minister P Thangamani announced a Tatkal scheme for farmers seeking free electricity connection to their pump sets, under which farmers who are in the waiting list can pay the specified amount depending on the power of their motors and get the connections.
An official press release said that the amount to be paid was Rs 2.5 lakh for five horsepower (HP) motors, Rs 2.75 lakh for 7.5 HP, Rs 3 lakh for 10 HP and Rs 4 lakh for 15 HP. The amount should be paid in the local electricity executive engineers’ office, the release said that 25,000 connections would be given in that category.
Another 25,000 free connections would be given to those in the waiting list till March 31, 2003 and 1000 applications on a priority basis for those between April 1, 2003 and March 31, 2004 by paying Rs 10,00 under the revised self-financing scheme.
