THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The BJP national executive and council meeting to be held in Kozhikode from September 23 to 25 has drawn lukewarm response in the state due to the apathy of the party’s state leadership in popularising the importance of the mega event. The national leadership has expressed its displeasure on the issue as it has found that there is lack of coordination among the state leaders in making the function a huge success.
The BJP central leadership is commemorating the 50th anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyaya’s Kozhikode summit which was held in December 1967 where he was appointed as the president of the Jan Sangh. Within two months, he was murdered while travelling in a train in Uttar Pradesh. The national executive meeting will be held at Kadavu resort, Kozhikode, on September 23 and national council at Swapnanagari on September 24 and 25.
The meet would also kickstart the year-long birth centenary celebrations of Deendayal Upadhyaya. Over 3,500 delegates will attend the meetings. “The RSS leadership has been interfering in the conduct of the functions forcing the state BJP leaders to take the backstage. Hence, the traditional BJP workers have retreated. The RSS leaders and their supporters are groping in the dark about how to publicise the event within the short span of time available,” said a BJP leader.
The BJP state leadership has asked its feeder organisations to popularise the event. On Saturday, the Yuva Morcha held a blood donation campaign at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology which was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Gopi. A drawing competition in connection with the national council meet was also held at Swathi Thirunal Music College which was organised by an NGO, Unarvu, and was attended by BJP MLA O. Rajagopal and sculptor Kanayi Kunjiraman. But the leaders are aware that these types of programmes will not bring the desired results.
