CJI TS Thakur unites love-lorn Noida-Tamil Nadu couple

According to the boy he fell in love with when she came to Delhi on an official trip and they got married in July this year.

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur was on Wednesday instrumental in uniting in the apex court a couple who had married against the wishes of their parents.

The boy, staying in Noida near the capital had knocked the doors of the SC with a habeas corpus petition when he learnt that his wife had been kept in house arrest by her parents in Chennai to prevent her from joining the husband.

According to the boy he fell in love with when she came to Delhi on an official trip and they got married in July this year.

But their happiness was short-lived as the moment the girl went to Chennai and told her parents about the love marriage, she was virtually kept under house arrest with a warning that she should not meet her husband. He sought a direction that she be released from the clutches of her parents so that they can live together.

On the directions of the court, the Chennai police had produced the girl in the court. When the matter was heard, even as the petitioner-husband was eagerly awaiting to see his wife, the CJI showed his humane face and expressed his desire to unite the couple and he succeeded in his efforts.
