2 go missing as boat capsizes at Aranmula

Pathanamthitta: Cricketer Karun Nair was saved while two others went missing after a snake boat (Palliyodam) carrying them capsized in the middle of the river Pampa at Aranmula on Sunday. The youths Rajiv Thondiyath (38) and Visakh Radhakrishnan (24) alias Vishnu of Kallooreth, Chngannoor, were travelling in the boat Keezhcherimel along with Mr Nair and others to take part in the Vallasadhya offered by the cricketer.

The incident took place at 11.45 am at Thottupusserikkara when the boat was taking a turn. It capsized from the left, and they were trapped in the middle of the river.

At least three of the passengers managed to swim across to the shore. All the rescued gathered at the Vallasadya spot after which they found two of them missing. A unit of firefighters immediately rushed to the spot and started searching for them. Legislators Veena George, K.K. Ramachandran, district collector S. Harikishore and SP Harisankar visited the spot.
