Activist miffed by PM's Orlando shooting tweet, asks him to 'walk the talk'

'There's no point of giving 'thoughts & prayers' to the families of the LGBTQ community in Orlando,' the activist said.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has never failed in conveying his condolences in tragic incidents or bereavements. However, his tweet on the recent Orlando killings has not gone down well with a twitterati whose response to Modi’s tweets has created a buzz on the micro-blogging site.

Expressing grief, Narendra Modi tweeted, “Shocked at the shootout in Orlando, USA. My thoughts & prayers are with the bereaved families and the injured.”

The tweet might look plain and simple on its face value but Rachita, a human rights activist and illustrator, gauged the hypocrisy veiled behind the Prime Minister’s tweet.

Being vexed by the parochial perspective borne by the government and its disinterest in looking into the cons of Section 377, Rachita took to Twitter to put forth her views on the dismal status quo. “Narendra Modi there's no point of giving "thoughts & prayers" to the families of the LGBTQ community in Orlando if you don't walk the talk,” retorted Rachita.

Further, she has also shared a snapshot of the number of people who have retweeted her tweet on the social media platform.

Earlier, there have been instances when BJP leaders had criminalized homosexuality and backed Section 377.
