LDF govt is also sidelining Gandhi: V M Sudheeran

Thrissur: Like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who replaced an iconic photograph of Mahatma Gandhi with the spinning wheel with his picture, the LDF government is also trying to sideline Gandhi, KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran said. He was speaking to media persons here after a meeting at the District Congress Committee (DCC). “A circular released by the General Administration department of the Kerala Government on the government functions to be conducted on January 30 which is observed as Martyr’s Day, the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, shockingly did not mention the name of Gandhiji. Like the Modi government at the centre, the LDF government is also trying to marginalise Gandhiji and his values through this circular released on January 4,” Sudheeran said.

For years, January 30 was observed as Martyr's Day, but the circular simply said that a two-minute prayer needed to be conducted in memory of all martyrs in all government offices and institutions starting from 11 am. But, the circular did not mention the name of Gandhi, Sudheeran noted. “Such a circular by the department comes out after being vetted by the Chief Minister’s office and it cannot be viewed as an oversight. The government should withdraw the circular and tender an apology,” Sudheeran said.
