Fisheries Minister J Mercykutty Amma offers to help trace fugitive ship

A boat crew of 6 had ventured out from Beypore on October 11 when an unidentified ship rammed the boat, Emmanuel, and fled.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fisheries Minister J Mercykutty Amma has assured help to trace the ship involved in a crash with a fishing boat, which left a fisherman dead and three others missing. A boat crew of 6 had ventured out from Beypore on October 11 when an unidentified ship rammed the boat, Emmanuel, and fled. Two crew were rescued while Antony, the boat owner from Chinnathurai in Kanyakumari, drowned. Three others on board- Prince and Johnson from Poovar and Remmiyas from Chinnathurai – were missing.

Ms Mercykutty gave this assurance to Mr Justin Antony, founder president of International Fishermen Development Trust (Infidet), who, along with Mr Xavier, father of the dead fisherman, Dyson Yesudas and Rakesh met her at the Secretariat on Thursday. They submitted a memorandum seeking adequate compensation to affected families.
