President Ram Nath Kovind to launch Technocity project at Pallipuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: President Ram Nath Kovind will formally launch the Technocity project at Pallipuram here on October 27 by laying the foundation stone for the first government building in the campus. Chief Minister . Pinarayi Vijayan formally invited the President on Monday.

IT Secretary M. Sivasankar said that Technocity would be projected as a destination of futuristic technologies and it could generate up to one lakh fresh jobs. The government is planning a two lakh square feet building and it would be made operational by 2019. It could also meet the space demands of small and medium enterprises presently working at Technopark, he said in a statement.

Technocity is coming up on about 400 acres spread over two sides of the national highway between Pallipuram and Mangalappuram, about 15 kilometres from the city. While IT and IT Enabled Service projects are planned at about 300 acres on one side of the campus, a Knowledge City is planned on about 100 acres. Kerala IT parks chief executive officer Mr. Hrishikesh Nair said in the statement that the Knowledge City would be the hub of centres of excellence in future technologies. “We are on the lookout for an academic partner for the Knowledge City to promote new technologies and to facilitate business collaborations for startups,” he said. Leading IT organisations like TCS, SunTec and IIITM-K are also setting up campuses at Technocity.
